Oh Baalbek, Palmyra and Petra
You stand tall
and magnify my insignificance
So many souls passed through your gates with head held high
Admiring these masterpieces' footprints from the eternal past
Today you still stand tall and dominate
My imagination and magnify my insignificance
I pail in scale like ants to mount Everest
But your beauty from primitive hands like mine were created
Not even the New World or Near East minted skyscrapers
Hold a candle to your eternal grace and beauty
In your declaration I find my redemption
For with hope and inspiration you engage my imagination
For I am of humbles means and working class clan
With tiny hands and a modest constitution
But it's the hope in me that I can one day create
My masterpiece to claim my very own
Even though the odds are stacked against my lower station
But to hope eternal I cling like a mule's stubbornness
I will try again and again to master like the sun's fever
The talents in the field that God infused my veins
Whether I wither like a dead wine on winter's watch
And am forgotten to the dust of evolving tides of time
My dream I will take with me to my afterlife
And plan on executing my earthly wish
The moment my soul lands in God's heart
And enrich His thoughts with my burning desire.

Oh Alexander how could you
With blood build the causeway to Tyre
And burn and lay its foundations to tears
Slain its legitimate population
Who gave the Book its universal alphabet
And the prized Tyrian purple dye
Oh Alexander how could you
Put the torch to Persepolis
Yet could not erase Xerxes the Great from the annals of history
You tried to decimate my voice the East
Then with intimacy you declared in public your love to Hephaestion
But my incarnation the day you laid your eyes on my soul
For I am Bagoas spirit's reflecting your mirror
Then my Alexandria you tried to forge one tolerant empire
But your soul kidnapped by the wings of death to immortality
You left Ptolemy to govern my Alexandria
Your last queen with her two lovers burnt my thoughts again with her lust
Housed in the heart of its famed library
And from you Bush and Cheney took the wrong lead
And laid waste my heritage from Mesopotamia to Pashtun
And now after ten years of utter destruction and decimation
I am asked to feast on democracy of the West
The Sun always rises from the East
And the West always basks in the shadows of its knowledge

A shooting star
How far you are
I see you clear
In my heart's sphere
Yet you aim away
From my loving way
What force lay within
In god's forbidden sin
That drives you to burn
In every twist and turn
you question my love
From far far above
Your seek a new story
Crushing my testimony
Then you fizzle out
In the lap of burnout
And no trace of you
From your fading hue
Left for me to collect
The annals of your reject

The heart of understanding
The heart of tolerance
In short supply nowadays
In the forest of humanity
Beautiful trees logged down and burnt
Exposing the charred soil below
Even the seeds of life
Can't shelter deep enough to germinate
In the hardening of its dirt
By the feet of the unforgiving
And god's tears vaporized
Drying from so much crying
In the heat of anger from vindication
From one heart to another
And we wonder why we are in such turmoil
From the rising East to the sunset West
From the Northern lights to the Southern Cross
Hope like the rain's visitation to the Sahara desert
A rare phenomena an abnormally
For love to rebirth again its seeds
From mother to child, father to son
Daughter to brother, husband to wife,
Neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend,
We are consumed with the margin of living
On the edge of the cliff one step from falling
Into the jaws of the dark abyss
And for the ones who nest there already
I pray for the ladder of hope to be lowered
To your bruised hands and feet from you're hardened cross
We are humans and into the community of caring we yearn
There are still some hearts that beat with passion
And resurrection awaiting from the stone
The heart of tolerance
In short supply nowadays
